Ken and Debbie Lyle have been involved in Australian Shepherds since 1976 when they purchased their first Aussie, VCH CH Shanti’s Rowdy Rustler CDX, OTDc, ATDds. Rowdy’s show career began in obedience, which then led to the trial arena and breed ring. He obtained multiple High in Trial and Most Versatile Aussie awards and was also a Best of Breed winner. The culmination of his achievements was being awarded Versatility Champion #3 in ASCA®. Back then the Lyle’s never could have known that purchasing that “little blue dog” would lead to a lifelong love and commitment to this wonderful breed.
Ken is a former ASCA® President, Vice President and Board Member, and Debbie served as the Membership Secretary. After 30 years in the breed, Vaquero Australian Shepherds has made its way to ASCA® Hall of Fame Kennel #35 and continues to produce quality Australian Shepherds. Ken is an ASCA® and AHBA Stockdog Judge and offers lessons at the ranch. As a result of their dedication to the breed, many Vaquero dogs have excelled in the stock arena, obedience, agility, conformation, rally and tracking.
The Miniature Australian Shepherd, North American Shepherd, North American Miniature Australian Shepherd, and/or Toy Australian Shepherd breeds are not recognized as a variety of Australian Shepherd by ASCA®. The club considers such dogs to be a distinct and separate breed and will not accept them into its registry.
"Our bylaws state that ASCA®'s purpose is: 'To encourage members and breeders to accept one breed standard for the Australian Shepherd as approved by the Club as the only standard of excellence by which Australian Shepherds shall be judged.' It is the mission of this club ASCA® and the mission of its members to preserve the breed rather than change it."
